Park<\/h1>\n

The park of the Fraeylemaborg is a national monument, a special place where elements of the French Baroque and English landscape style have been preserved side by side. Over winding paths, past ponds, garden ornaments and special trees you walk further and further into the forest park. Long straight avenues of oaks and beeches form lines of sight to the house, the 13th-century tower of Slochteren and the surrounding landscape.<\/p>\n

Spring flowers such as the rare Turkish lily, rhododendrons and azaleas bring colour. The Juglans Nigra or Black Nut behind the borg comes from North America and was grown from seed here 200-years ago. Forests and lands<\/h2>\n

In 1821, a detailed map of the park was drawn by surveyor F. F. N. van Hulten. It looks very much like the park we know today and forms the basis of its management. In 2024, the most recent phase of restoration of the park began.<\/p>\n

Walking through the park, you will also come across a number of follies: romantic structures appropriate to the English landscape style. Freely accessible<\/h3>\n

The park of the Fraeylemaborg is freely accessible almost all year round (with the exception of event days). The park is rich in flora and fauna.
