The romantic Fraeylemaborg has been a popular wedding venue for 50 years.
Marriage is an important moment the history of estates. For centuries, it was an important way to secure the family’s property for the next generation. People married in the church and celebrated in the borg.
In 1975 the Fraeylemaborg became a museum and at the same time the official wedding location for the municipality. First exclusively for couples from Slochteren and the immediate area, later from all over the province and other parts of the country.

In honor of the golden anniversary, we asked couples from the period 1975- 2024 to share their photos. We are showing them in the Kleine Zaal of the Fraeylemaborg. See how fashion and photography are slowly changing. Find historical moments, such as corona weddings, or the law change that allowed same-sex couples to marry.
