Experience the Eighty Years’ War at Fraeylemaborg 

During Pentecost, the Fraeylemaborg annually takes a step back in time to the turbulent period of the Eighty Years’ War. This special event takes place as part of the national Castle Day.

In the park behind the manor, a lively camp is set up with more than 50 historically dressed participants. Here, the past comes to life with impressive demonstrations, mock battles, and historical combat techniques. This is all organized in collaboration with the Association for Military History of Fortification Bourtange (VKVB).

The soldiers perform weapon drills, engage in combat, and showcase their skills with the rapier. A master of ceremonies provides explanations and stories during the demonstrations. Visitors can see how cooking was done in the 16th and 17th centuries and take a look at the sleeping quarters of the camp. In the field forge, visitors can see how bullets were made in an authentic way.

Of course, there will be plenty of food and drinks available, and there are also fun activities for children.

Adults: €7.50
Children up to 17 years old: Free

During the event, visitors can explore part of the manor: the Small and Large Halls. No extra charge is required for this.
