Fraeylemaborg
Life in a Groninger borg in the 20th century

Always to see

The Fraeylemaborg depicts life in a stately home in the 20th century. The rooms show everyday life for both family members and staff. They lived among centuries-old heirlooms and younger acquisitions, and this is reflected in the rooms.

After entering the imposing vestibule and visiting the Grote and Kleine Zaal with stucco decoration, you cannot miss the extraordinary cabinets and Chinese porcelain. The stately portraits of King Stadholder William III and his wife Queen Mary Stuart from 1691 are complemented by portraits of residents and their ancestors.

After this, you can tour the borg on your own. From the basement rooms (the oldest part of the borg) to the attic, where laundry hangs between the centuries-old beams. Visit the playroom, library and bedroom, the Daagsche Kamer, the atmospheric Rode Kamer with the painted ceiling and the Gerrit van Houten room.To guide your visit a brochure, an audio guide, the Fraeylema app and inventory lists are available. The volunteers are happy to help with questions.
